Radiesse vs Juvederrm – Comparison of two dermal filler injections
Juvederm vs Radiesse Filler: Injectable fillers are on the rise all over the United States. Two injectable fillers in particular, Radiesse and Juvederm, have been a popular choice to plump lips, soften lines and wrinkles and give curves to hollows in the face.

So what do injectable fillers like Radiesse and Juvederm do? These fillers are used to temporarily reverse the aging process. They can be used to plump up a puny lip line or fine lines around the lips and they can also be used to fill in deep, furrowing lines around the forehead, eyes and around the nose and mouth. Unlike plastic surgery, cosmetic procedures like injectable fillers are quick, easy and relatively painless. Injectable fillers also have lower risk of complications which are minimal and can include temporary paralysis, bruising at the injection site, over correction of the wrinkles, swelling, redness and rash.
Radiesse, the brand name for Calcium Hydroxylapatite, reduces the appearance of wrinkles and skin folds around the mouth and nose and can even fill in certain scars. This is great news for men and women that are seeing the first signs of age or would like to conceal bothersome facial scars. However, Radiesse is not recommended for use around the lips because of its large particle size. So if you are only looking to fill your forehead wrinkles as well as plump your lips, Radiesse may not be your best choice.
Juvederm is an injectable filler that contains Hyaluronic Acid, a naturally occurring substance in human tissue. The great thing about that is you are not introducing a foreign substance/chemical to your body. Juvederm can treat folds around the nose and mouth area, frown lines, crow’s feet, and lips which makes it a versatile product to use. This also makes Juvederm a great choice for someone who is treating more than one area.
Both Radiesse and Juvederm are FDA approved for most cosmetic procedures so they are easily available at your doctor’s office. They also both work to add volume and plump fine lines or indents in the face such as crow’s feet and frown lines. Radiesse and Juvederm are convenient injectable fillers because there is hardly any downtime. They are often considered a ‘lunch-time’ procedure which means that you can be in and out of your doctor’s office in very little time.
While Juvederm and Radiesse have similar applications, they are different in many ways. These fillers give a similar effect but are made up of two completely different substances. Radiesse consists of “microspheres that are calcium based in a water-based gel,” while Juvederm is made of Hyaluronic Acid, a naturally occurring hydrator. And although they both add volume and plump problem areas, Radiesse is not suggested for use around the lips or fine lines, whereas Juvederm can be used on virtually any area. Juvederm can last anywhere from four months to one year, and costs around $500.00 for Ultra and $550 for Ultra Plus. Although Radiesse can cost $525 for 1.5cc, it provides longer lasting results of one to two years.
